Grassroots Allies is a community support platform and seed funding facility on a mission to catalyze development from the grassroots.
We ally with local actors to build capacities, and develop mentorship programs, and encouragement. Along with enabling access to quick, catalytic and loss-mitigating financing to farmer communities and market development actors in rural Sub-Saharan Africa.
What we do
Allyship and Advisory
“Year after year we are left on our own… no one cares about poor farmers! The government keeps pushing us to work harder but they are not here when catastrophe hits” a farmer in Mayuge, 2023.
This is a cry of loneliness – a cry for allyship, and this is a gap we have kept filling for many years.
We listen, gather data/evidence, joint-strategize through a problem-solving approach, capacitate, mentor, and keep in long-term dialogue with the communities. This is what we see moving farmers from pity to waking up every morning at 5.00 AM for a new day of trying again.
Grassroots Allies Fund
Think about this – at least two billion people in rural farmer communities face intensifying challenges to their livelihoods triggered by among others fluctuating crop prices, extreme weather disruptions, post-harvest losses, and failure to access critical loss-mitigating capital. These challenges will continue unless we take action – FAO & IFAD, 2023.
To be part of the solutions puzzle, we run a fund that enables access to affordable, catalytic, and loss-mitigating financing to grassroots agricultural communities and rural market development entrepreneurs in Sub-Saharan Africa.
